In [...]]]> Pupils across the school are currently preparing pieces for this, our first Dance and Drama Evening.  Mrs Bostock and Mrs Farmer are working with dancers in the Infant, Junior and Senior departments and we’re looking forward to seeing their new dances.  Unfortunately, this event had to be postponed due to the very cold weather.

In addition, both Senior and Junior Drama Groups have been preparing pieces for performance, some scripted and some devised by themselves, and Year 8 have just completed scripts following our work in Drama lessons on script writing.  The best of these scripts will be rehearsed over the coming weeks and staged as part of our performance evening, when they will be judged and the winner announced.

Our Year 10 GCSE group will also have devised a piece of drama, based on some of the themes in Macbeth and Hannah Edwards is creating a piece that will be shown for the first time during this evening and then entered for the Group Drama class at the Alderley Edge Festival.

Younger pupils will perform earlier in the evening and are free to leave if they choose to save them having an overly late night.  Further details will be sent to the parents of those children performing.

At 2.45pm on 8th February all of our infant and junior pupils, including the Pre-School room,  came together to join a nationwide record-breaking attempt to raise funds for SignHealth, a charity that supports deaf children.  We sang and signed the song Sign to Sing and then the Infants showed the Juniors [...]]]>

At 2.45pm on 8^th February all of our infant and junior pupils, including the Pre-School room,  came together to join a nationwide record-breaking attempt to raise funds for SignHealth, a charity that supports deaf children.  We sang and signed the song Sign to Sing and then the Infants showed the Juniors another sign language song they have been learning with Miss Simpson.

On the day of the record-breaking attempt, children in schools across the country were singing the same song at the same time; last year there were over 94,000 children and adults taking part!

As part of the event, the Pre-School room ran a cake sale and raised £50 for the charity – the cakes sold well and were lovely!

She talked about starting from a central character and how her own experiences in life, such as persistent nightmares [...]]]> On Friday 13^th January a local author, Bryony Pearce, came to school to talk to Year 7 and 8 about her first published novel, Angel’s Fury and explain how she goes about the writing process.

She talked about starting from a central character and how her own experiences in life, such as persistent nightmares and memories from childhood, influenced her plot and gave her the idea for her book.  She then went on to talk about the research she did, most notably into the Milgram Experiment, and did various activities with the children to illustrate her ideas.

Bryony also explained how she structures her novels and creates an outline before writing and, interestingly, that it takes much longer to write a second draft than it does to create the original first draft.

All the pupils have been invited to take part in a short story writing competition and, to tie in with the themes of Angel’s Fury, the stories submitted by the children are to be based on a dream or a nightmare.  The deadline for this is Friday 3^rd February.  The winner will be judged by Bryony Pearce and announced the following week.  There are prizes to be won!
