Science
To raise new questions, new possibilities, to regard old problems from a new angle, requires creative imagination and marks real advance in science
Albert Einstein
Science is an important subject within Beech Hall School as it develops many of the student skills which can be transferred through so many of their other subjects and beyond to life in general.
Infant and Junior science
In our infant department, our pupils learn about science through practical and interactive experiences during the course of the school day. Investigation, observation and recording skills are developed in order to allow children to better understand their world and express these ideas.
Once they enter the junior school, Science is taught by a specialist science teacher, who also teaches in the senior school, in a dedicated science classroom meaning that the students are able to develop the skills necessary to become an enthusiastic scientist. In the junior school the students will cover a complete range of subjects including the properties of materials, life sciences and physical sciences.
GCSE science
GCSE science at Beech Hall school follows the AQA science syllabus, with the option of taking the dual science GCSE or to take the individual sciences. These courses are designed to promote the student’s development of critical thinking and analysis of a topic through investigation. Students will be pushed to develop their knowledge and understanding through debate of key issues, interpretation and assessment of other’s data and problem-solving.
Senior science
Over the first three years of senior school the focus is around developing the skills required to become a successful scientist and to make sure that they understand how science works whilst encouraging the students to think critically about the world around them and to gain an interest into how things work. Each year students undertake projects of their choosing, giving them an opportunity to develop independently on an area that is of interest to them. During this time, students will cover all of the key topics from each of the three individual sciences.

“Choosing to send my son to Beech Hall School was one of the best decisions I have ever made. He has grown in confidence and excelled academically. He has also been made to feel welcome and has made some lasting friendships. I cannot recommend the school highly enough. “
